Pacifica Graduate Institute's Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology offers a course of study situated within the depth psychological orientation. It is designed to prepare students for the independent general practice of professional clinical psychology in the 21st century. Guided by a practitioner-scientist model, the program integrates theory, practice, and ethics, and stresses a broad range of perspectives on psychopathology, assessment, intervention and research. A unique emphasis of the program is our commitment to honoring the full complexity of psychological life in a diverse society.

Toward this end, the program provides advanced training in depth psychological and human science traditions, as well as a focus on the humanities. Cultural competency is a core value of the program and comprises a major dimension in all courses. Clinical Psychology courses draw from three areas of study:

• Clinical Practice
• Research in Clinical & Depth Psychology

 
 

James L. Broderick, Ph.D.
Chair, Ph.D. Program in Clinical Psychology with Emphasis in Depth Psychology

Dr. Jim Broderick became Chair in 2008. Dr. Broderick is a licensed clinical psychologist. He served as Director of Mental Health for twenty years in two California counties, Shasta and Santa Barbara. He has been actively involved in mental health and alcohol drug treatment for nearly forty years. He is a passionate advocate for quality services for individuals with serious mental illness. His academic interests include phenomenology, existentialism, critical theory, and evidence-based psychotherapy. His major therapeutic interests include depth-oriented Brief Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy with a Jungian orientation.
