Sunday, January 30
from 9:30am–3:30pm
Embodied
dream imagery—pioneered individually and in groups since
the 1970's by Zürich trained Jungian analyst Robert Bosnak—is
an interaction with the dreaming state involving the whole
body, as well as poetic vision. While dreaming, the dreamworld
presents itself as utterly real. Embodied dream imagery has
developed techniques facilitating states of consciousness
analog to the dreaming state, called hypnagogic states of
consciousness. In this hypnagogic state it is possible to
experience, body and soul, the consistency of the dreamworld—not
just from the standpoint of the 'I' in the dream, but from
a host of other dreaming perspectives. In this way, the body
becomes the container for all—frequently conflicting—forces
in the dream, leading to profound insights experienced as
embodied states. The body becomes a network of simultaneously
held impulses, corresponding to differing, often conflicting,
states of consciousness. When this happens, strong physical
and psychological effects result.
In
this experiential workshop, participants will learn to use
dreamwork techniques that give access to embodied states otherwise
unconscious. Through incubation methods, participants will
learn to seed their dream life and access material relevant
to their intentions. This workshop is designed for therapists,
people with physical illness wishing to approach their illness
through dreams, and artists who want to deepen their involvement
with their art.
Participants from previous workshops given by Robert Bosnak
know that each seminar is different, since his teaching is
based on material presented by participants. For those with
experience in Embodied Dream Imagery, this workshop gives
the opportunity to acquire advanced experience in this intricate
method.
Robert
Bosnak, PsyA, is a Dutch Jungian
psychoanalyst and diplomate of the C.G. Jung Institute in
Zürich, Switzerland. He is co-founder of www.cyberdreamwork.com,
the first global interactive dreamwork site using real time
voice and video, and he is past President of the Association
for the Study of Dreams. Robert Bosnak is in private practice
in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His first book, A Little
Course in Dreams, was translated into 12 languages. Since
then, he has written Christopher's Dreams: Dreaming and
Living with AIDS and Tracks in the Wilderness of
Dreaming in which he describes his techniques in detail.
His in-depth embodied dreamwork has been effective both individually
and in group settings. His techniques are applied worldwide
by therapists, artists, actors, and others interested in the
creative imagination. He has done groundbreaking research
in computer emotion recognition in collaboration with M.I.T.
He is also involved in research of embodied dream imagery
and the immune system with Harvard Medical School and works
with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford, England,
to develop plays and rehearsal methods based on embodied dream
imagery.
