Symposium for the Study Of Myth – "Exploring Myth: Culture, Theory, Practice"

On August 31-September 2, 2012 the Joseph Campbell Foundation, Opus Archives & Research Center and Pacifica Graduate Institute celebrated myth and mythmakers. "Exploring Myth: Culture, Theory, Practice", an interdisciplinary three-day gathering on Pacifica’s campus in Santa Barbara, paid tribute to the fact that myth is a changing, elastic landscape that flourishes in surprising ways.

The Study of Myth venture celebrated the 20-year anniversary of the Joseph Campbell archive collection living at Opus and the 20th year of the Joseph Campbell Foundation. This collaboration also honored the development over the last 20 years of the field of myth studies, brought to the academy in significant measure by Pacifica Graduate Institute’s creation of an M.A. and Ph.D. Program in Mythological Studies.
