Tuesday August 12 – Arrive in Zürich
We have reserved rooms at a wonderful historic hotel that has been completely renovated. It is in the Niederdorf district of Old Town Zürich. During the day this pedestrian zone is a shopper’s paradise with boutiques, beautiful old houses lining the main streets, and a patchwork of fascinating alleys. At night cafés, bars, restaurants, and the local street artists, turn the area into an exciting center of spontaneous entertainment.
In order to offer accommodations fitting different budgets, we have reserved a limited number of single, double, and triple rooms at special rates. Rates range from 100 to 275 Swiss Francs per person, per night, and include breakfast, taxes, and service charges. One Swiss Franc (SFr.) is equal to approximately one US Dollar. There is an additional city tax of SFr.2.50 per person, per night. For those wanting to arrive earlier, the hotel will offer the group rates from August 9.
Wednesday, August 13 in Zürich
Morning: Sleep in, unpack, shop, or explore Old Town Zürich. From our hotel, you can walk to many places of interest:
• Opera House—This neo-baroque building on the shore of Lake Zürich was built in 1891 and sits upon 1,800 oak piles.
• St. Peter's Church—The oldest church in Zürich, it dates to before 900 and stands close by the ruins of a Roman fortress.
• Kunsthaus Zürich—This museum houses significant works by Edvard Munch, Van Gogh, Picasso, Claude Monet, and Marc Chagall.
• The Swiss National Museum—The National Museum is reminiscent of a fairytale castle surrounded by towers and courtyards.
• Lakeside Parks and Municipal Gardens—There are so many beautiful outdoor spaces to explore and enjoy.

The Psychological Club
Afternoon: A 10-minute walk takes us to the Psychology Club where Jung reformulated his theories of the psyche, collective unconscious, archetypes, individuation, and psychological types. Those interested in analytical psychology would meet at the Club, which became a model for clubs in other cities and countries. We will attend a lecture and slide presentation on Marie-Louise von Franz and a presentation on the history of the Psychological Club by Emmanuel Kennedy, literary executor for von Franz; and then enjoy a traditional Greek reception.
Evening: Free
Thursday, August 14 in Einsiedeln

The Black Madonna
Morning: We’ll board a train in Zürich and travel down the western side of Lake Zürich on our way to Einsiedeln, the home of the Black Madonna of Einsiedeln.
Switzerland’s greatest pilgrimage shrine, the abbey of Einsiedeln, will be our first stop as we tour the monastery library and impressive medieval cathedral.
Afternoon: Einsiedeln is a special town, so we’re allowing time for lunch and a little exploring. You’d can pick up fruit, bread and cheese for a picnic, or settle into a café and watch the town stroll by. After lunch, we will reconvene for a lecture by Elena Hinshaw-Fischli on the psychological significance of the Black Madonna. Our day ends with a visit to Daimon Verlag, a well established Jungian publisher. Robert Hinshaw, a Jungian Analyst, will be our host for a late afternoon wine reception before we take the train back to Zürich.
Evening: Free. We don’t leave Zürich until the next afternoon, so feel free to stay out late and soak in the richness of Swiss culture.
Friday, August 15 in Küsnacht
We’ll travel by chartered bus along the eastern shore of Lake Zürich to Küsnacht, the suburb where Jung lived and died. We will tour the historic C.G. Jung Institute of Zürich with Daniel Baumann, the president of the institute’s board and Jung’s great-grandson. We will also view historical archives and attend a fascinating presentation by Vicente de Moura, a Jungian analyst and curator of the Pictures Archive at the C.G. Jung Institute, in the very lecture hall used by Jung. There will also be a visit to Jung’s house and other places of historical significance.
Evening: Free. There will be time for dinner on our own after we return to Zürich.
Saturday, August 16 in Zürich and Ascona

Sunday, August 17 in Ascona
Morning and afternoon: Sleep in or explore Ascona. This colorful fishing village is a favorite with artists, and has become an important venue for cultural events. Blessed with an exceptional climate, Ascona is on a long, narrow lake called Lago Maggiore. Its shores are dotted with sandy beaches and great green meadows.
Evening: Our group will gather for a welcome dinner in Ascona. This transitional evening, including welcome remarks by Stephen Aizenstat and Robert Hinshaw, will give us a chance to reminisce about our northern journey and anticipate the week ahead as we step into history and move it forward with Pacifica at Eranos.
Monday, August 18 to Friday, August 22
In Ascona and Eranos
9:30am to 5:30pm Daily: Every morning we will depart from a dock near our hotels for the 15-minute boat ride to Eranos. Once there, we’ll walk up ancient steps, through gardens, and over terraces to Casa Eranos...where our program will focus on the archetypal factors at work in the world about us. There will be morning and afternoon lectures by European scholars and members of Pacifica’s distinguished faculty. Each day there will be mid-morning and afternoon refreshments, and a two-hour lunch break featuring a lavish buffet. You will have ample time to put your feet in the lake or sit in casual conversation at the infamous round table where Jung, Eliade, Kerényi, Neumann, and many others established their ideas and forged relationships between their different fields. Click on the SPEAKERS link above for details on the presentations at Eranos and at other locations throught the tour.
Evenings: Late each afternoon, our boat will return us to Ascona in time to enjoy the sunset, a drink with friends, and a delicious meal at one of the town’s many quaint restaurants. On the final evening of the Legacy Tour, Friday, August 22, we will gather in Ascona for a special closing banquet.
