Journal Article Database Descriptions

Academic Search Premier (mobile access)

This multi-disciplinary database provides full text for nearly 4,500 journals, including full text for more than 3,600 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for 1,000 titles. Academic Search Premier is updated on a daily basis via EBSCOhost. The database includes content from the Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection and the Religion and Philosophy Collection. Alt HealthWatch (mobile access)

Focuses on many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care and wellness. It offers libraries full text articles for more than 180 international, and often peer-reviewed, journals and reports. In addition, there are hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research and book excerpts. It also provides in-depth coverage across the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative medicine. Indexing and abstracts goes back as far as 1984, and full text going back as far as 1990.

APA databases (mobile access)

This allows you to simultaneously search all the APA databases Pacifica subscribes to, namely PsycARTICLES, PsycBOOKS, PsycCRITIQUES, PsycEXTRA, and PsycINFO.

ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials (mobile access)

Combines the premier index to journal articles, book reviews, and collections of essays in all fields of religion with ATLA's online collection of major religion and theology journals. Includes more than 488,000 article citations from more than 1,500 journals (506 currently indexed), more than 215,000 essay citations from over 15,700 multi-author works, and more than 446,000 book review citations. This database begins in 1949 although indexing for some journal titles extends back into the nineteenth century. This database is produced by the American Theological Library Association.

Business Source Elite (mobile access)

Provides full-text coverage of nearly 1,000 scholarly business, management and economics journals. It also covers scholarship crossing over between psychology and business, such as industrial psychology, anxiety, risk-taking, leadership, and transformational leadership. Full text coverage includes the Harvard Business Review, Academy of Management journals, and Leadership Quarterly. For more info about this database, see EBSCO's description. EBSCO E-Journals Database

This allows you to search in and retrieve articles from the full text e-journals the library subscribes to on an individual basis, meaning the journals not in full text in the other EBSCO, APA, or JSTOR databases. Many of these journals, such as American Journal of Psychoanalysis, Jung Journal: Culture & Psyche, Qualitative Inquiry, and Qualitative Research, are also not always indexed (meaning no full text or even citation/abstract records of their articles) in other EBSCO databases available to current students and faculty. Note that this E-Journals Database uses the same interface as other EBSCOhost databases, and replaces the older EJS product.

ERIC Database (mobile access)

ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center, contains more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 1,000 educational and education-related journals.

Film Literature Index

This freely accessible database does not contain full text. It "annually indexes 150 film and television periodicals from 30 countries cover-to-cover and 200 other periodicals selectively for articles on film and television. The periodicals range from the scholarly to the popular. More than 2,000 subject headings provide detailed analysis of the articles. The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded Indiana University a grant in 2002 to convert the print version of the Film Literature Index to electronic form. The FLI Online contains approximately 700,000 citations to articles, film reviews and book reviews published between 1976-2001."

Health Source Consumer Edition (mobile access)

Contains full text access to over 80 consumer health periodicals. "Also included in this database is searchable full text for current health-related pamphlets and nearly 130 health reference books, including books published by the People's Medical Society. Additionally, Health Source: Consumer Edition contains more than 9,900 Clinical Reference Systems reports (in English and Spanish) and Merriam-Webster's Medical Desk Dictionary. This full-text database covers topics such as AIDS, cancer, diabetes, drugs & alcohol, aging, fitness, nutrition & dietetics, children's health, women's health, etc." For more info, see EBSCO's description.

Health Source Nursing/Academic Edition (mobile access)

"Provides nearly 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition also features the Lexi-PAL Drug Guide, which covers 1,300 generic drug patient education sheets with more than 4,700 brand names." For more info, see EBSCO's description.

Humanities International Complete (mobile access)

Provides full text of hundreds of journals, books and other published sources from around the world. Produced by Whitston Publishing (an imprint of EBSCO Publishing), this database includes all data from Humanities International Index (over 2,000 titles and 2 million records) plus unique full text content, much of which is not found in other databases.

JSTOR Arts & Sciences III

Contains journals in languages and literature, as well as essential titles in the fields of music, film studies, folklore, performing arts, religion, and the history and study of art and architecture. Additional interdisciplinary titles broaden the scope of coverage to include folklore, feminist & women's studies.

PEP Archive (mobile access)

Contains peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles from the field of psychoanalysis. Produced by Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing, Inc, the database offers the full text of 20 principal psychoanalytic journals and more than 40 classic psychoanalytic books dating as far back as 1920. In all, the database includes more than 50,000 articles, book chapters, book reviews, letters and commentaries and 4,000 figures and illustrations. PILOTS (Published International Literature on Traumatic Stress)

An "electronic index to the worldwide literature on PTSD and other mental health consequences of exposure to traumatic events. Unlike other databases, PILOTS does not restrict its coverage to articles appearing in selected journals. It attempts to include all publications relevant to PTSD and other forms of traumatic stress, whatever their origin without disciplinary, linguistic, or geographic limitations. PILOTS is produced by the National Center for PTSD, and is electronically available to the public." Please note that PILOTS is a citation & abstract database, much like PsycINFO, and does not contain full text. To obtain online full text of citations in it, we recommend following the directions in our FAQ Articles available online in full text or Articles and books in print. PsycARTICLES - (mobile access)

PsycARTICLES, from the American Psychological Association (APA), is a definitive source of full-text, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles in psychology. The database contains more than 100,000 articles from 59 journals - 48 published by the American Psychological Association (APA) and 11 from allied organizations. It includes all journal articles, letters to the editor and errata from each journal. Coverage spans 1894 to present.

PsycCRITIQUES - (mobile access)

PsycCRITIQUES, produced by the American Psychological Association (APA), is an electronic serial of book reviews featuring full text reviews of current scholarly and professional books in psychology. It also publishes reviews from a psychological perspective of popular films and trade books.

PsycINFO - (mobile access)

PsycINFO, from the American Psychological Association (APA), contains nearly 2.3 million citations and summaries of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations, all in psychology and related disciplines, dating as far back as the 1800s. 97 percent of the covered material is peer-reviewed. Journal coverage, which spans 1887 to present, includes international material selected from more than 2,100 periodicals in more than 25 languages. Cambridge Collections Online

Contains subject or theme based collections of content within a richly functional, fully cross-searchable online environment. The Complete Cambridge Companions is available as a complete collection and as two sub-collections comprising the Cambridge Companions in Literature and Classics and the Cambridge Companions in Philosophy, Religion and Culture. Each collection is updated with new Companions on publication. Also available through Cambridge Collections Online, the Shakespeare Survey Online makes the distinguished 60 year history of the print series exclusively available online for the first time.

Gale Virtual Reference Library

You'll still find these in the OED, but you'll also find the history of individual words, and of the language, traced through 3 million quotations, from classic literature and specialist periodicals to films scripts and cookery books.

Dissertation Database Descriptions

Dissertations & Theses @ Pacifica Graduate Institute

A subset of the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Full Text database, limited specifically to Pacifica's doctoral dissertations and master's theses (theses started being available in ProQuest primarily in 2010, though there are a few from 2008-2009). Nearly all Pacifica dissertations are in this database except for those so recently published that they have not yet been sent to ProQuest.

Open Access Theses and Dissertations

"OATD aims to be the best possible resource for finding open access graduate theses and dissertations published around the world. Metadata (information about the theses) comes from over 600 colleges, universities, and research institutions. OATD currently indexes over 1.5 million theses and dissertations." For more, see the OATD FAQ. We have also discovered that the OATD provides access to dissertations and theses from international institutes and universities not always indexed in ProQuest.

ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (formerly named Digital Dissertations)

This database includes 2.7 million searchable citations to dissertation and theses from around the world from 1861 to the present day together with 1.2 million full text dissertations that are available for download in PDF format. Over 2.1 million titles are available for purchase as printed copies. It also offers full text for most of the dissertations added since 1997, from various universities.

ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Open Access

Provides full text access to hundreds of dissertations and theses whose authors have opted to publish as open access. This database is available to everyone, including alumni, free of charge. As of September 2011, there are nearly 60 Pacifica dissertations and theses included.

Ebook Database Descriptions

Directory of Open Access Books

This is a searchable database/directory of freely available open-access ebooks. "The Directory of Open Access Books is a service of OAPEN Foundation. The OAPEN Foundation is an international initiative dedicated to Open Access monograph publishing, based at the National Library in The Hague."

DSM-V Online

Available to current Pacifica faculty, students, and staff. The entire DSM-V, with classification and appendix, can be browsed by sections, disorder categories, and then specific disorders. DSM-V emerging measures and models (section III) are included. There is also an alphabetical listing of DSM-V diagnoses and codes, as well as numerical listings of the diagnoses and codes. Both are in the Appendix.

Ebrary Academic Complete

Available to Pacifica faculty, students, staff, and alumni. Ebrary contains over 100,000 ebooks from various academic disciplines. This database offers simultaneous use of all its ebooks, meaning multiple viewing of the same ebook at the same time. Ebrary allows downloading (in PDF) and/or printing up to 60 pages at a time within an ebook, per browser session, though exact downloading and printing restrictions are determined by ebook publishers. EBSCO eBook Collection

Available to Pacifica faculty, students, and staff. This ebook collection houses individual ebooks Pacifica owns that are hosted by EBSCO. Access is provided through the typical EBSCOhost platform.

PsycBOOKS, from the American Psychological Association (APA), is a database of more than 16,000 chapters in PDF from over 3,000 books published by APA and other distinguished publishers. The database includes most scholarly titles published by APA from copyright years 1953 - 2005. It also includes 100 out-of-print books and a total of more than 400 classic books of landmark historical impact in psychology.

Stahl's Essential Psychopharmacology

Contains full content, fully searchable from Stahl's Essential Psychopharmacology, Stahl's Illustrated Series andThe Prescriber's Guide. Contains information for side effects, dosing, and special population use. It also allows you to search drugs by name, class or use.

World Folklore and Folklife

Includes information on celebrations and rituals, food and drink, holidays and festivals, music and dance, religion and belief, tales,myths, and urban legends, and traditional arts and crafts. ARAS - Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism

Covers mythological, ritualistic, and symbolic images from all over the world, throughout history. ARAS probes the universality of archetypal themes and provides a testament to the deep and abiding connections that unite the disparate factions of the human family. It contains about 17,000 photographic images, each cross-indexed, individually mounted, and accompanied by scholarly commentary. The commentary includes a description of the image with a cultural history that serves to place it in its unique historical and geographical setting. CAMIO - Catalog of Art Museum Images Online

An "online collection documenting works of art from around the world, representing the collections of prominent museums. CAMIO highlights the creative output of cultures around the world, from prehistoric to contemporary times, and covering the complete range of expressive forms."

PsycEXTRA (mobile access)

PsycEXTRA, produced by the American Psychological Association (APA), is a bibliographic and full-text companion to the scholarly PsycINFO database. The document types included in PsycEXTRA consist of technical, annual and government reports, conference papers, newsletters, magazines, newspapers, consumer brochures and more. It contains more than 85,000 records with nearly a quarter million full-text pages.

Publishing Information Database Description

Cabell's Directory of Publishing Opportunities for Psychology & Psychiatry

Designed to help "researchers and academics match their manuscripts with the scholarly journals which are most likely to publish those manuscripts. The Directory indexes over 620 journals according to forty-one different topic areas, such as: Abnormal Psychology, Child Psychology, Psychopathology, and Social Psychology. The searchable Directory provides valuable contact information, review process data, manuscript specifications and guidelines, and publication information for each journal." Also includes types of readership and acceptance rates per journal. Clinical Trials.gov

"ClinicalTrials.gov is a registry and results database of publicly and privately supported clinical studies of human participants conducted around the world." Produced by the U.S. National Institutes of Health. Includes psychological, stress disorders, and mental-health related clinical studies (as well as others; see subjects within behaviors and mental disorders). Mental Measurements Yearbook with Tests in Print (mobile access)

Produced by the Buros Institute at the University of Nebraska, provides users with a comprehensive guide to over 2,000 contemporary testing instruments. Designed for an audience ranging from novice test consumers to experienced professionals, the MMY series contains information essential for a complete evaluation of test products within such diverse areas as psychology, education, business, and leadership. First published by Oscar K. Buros, the MMY series allows users to make knowledgeable judgments and informed selection decisions about the increasingly complex world of testing. MMY provides coverage from Volume 9 to the present.

PsycTESTS

As of July 12, 2012, this database is now available through EBSCO. It "serves as a repository for the full text of psychological tests and measures as well as a rich source of structured information about the tests. A wide variety of test types are included in PsycTESTS, including achievement and aptitude tests, intelligence tests, tests of cognitive functioning, occupational tests, personality tests, and so on." It includes "full text of psychological tests and measures, as available, full bibliographic records and descriptive summaries of tests in each record, and descriptive summaries of commercially available tests with links to the publisher. The main focus of PsycTESTS is unpublished tests, those developed by researchers for use in their work but not made commercially available. For as many as possible, APA includes the full text of the tests and measures. The records for these are based on published accounts of test development or evaluation. In some cases, the record is based on use of a test when it has been used for a new population or setting."

An online collection of video available for the study of social work, psychotherapy, psychology, and psychiatric counseling. This resource includes over 350 videos totaling roughly 404 hours of counseling and therapy on film.

Psychotherapy.net Exclusive Collection

This collection of over 80 videos allows you to view videos online, with each video broken down by chapter for quick navigation. Synchronized transcripts and subtitles are available for many of our videos, with the spoken words highlighted on a transcript as a video plays. Many videos also come with an instructor's manual. You can search for videos in the Collection, or browse for them by approach, therapeutic issue, expert, or population. Notable videos available for viewing include the following:
