Journal Article Database Descriptions

Academic Search Premier

This multi-disciplinary database provides full text for nearly 4,500 journals,
including full text for more than 3,600 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to
1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable
cited references are provided for 1,000 titles. Academic Search Premier is
updated on a daily basis via EBSCOhost. The database includes content from the
Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection and the Religion and Philosophy

Alt HealthWatch
Focuses on many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated
approaches to health care and wellness. It offers libraries full text articles
for more than 180 international, and often peer-reviewed, journals and reports.
In addition, there are hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports,
original research and book excerpts. It also provides in-depth coverage across
the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative
medicine. Indexing and abstracts goes back as far as 1984, and full text going
back as far as 1990.

APA databases
This allows you to simultaneously search all the APA databases Pacifica
subscribes to, namely PsycARTICLES, PsycBOOKS, PsycEXTRA, and PsycINFO.

ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials
Combines the premier index to journal articles, book reviews, and
collections of essays in all fields of religion with ATLA’s online collection of
major religion and theology journals. Includes more than 488,000 article
citations from more than 1,500 journals (506 currently indexed), more than
215,000 essay citations from over 15,700 multi-author works, and more than
446,000 book review citations. This database begins in 1949 although indexing
for some journal titles extends back into the nineteenth century. This database
is produced by the American Theological Library Association.

Business Source Elite
Provides full-text coverage of nearly 1,000 scholarly business, management and
economics journals. It also covers scholarship crossing over between psychology
and business, such as industrial psychology, anxiety, risk-taking, leadership,
and transformational leadership. Full text coverage includes the Harvard
Business Review, Academy of Management journals, and Leadership Quarterly. For

Directory of Open Access (DOAJ) Journals
The DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) was launched in 2003 with 300 open
access journals. Today, this independent database contains 6,339,730 articles
and over 16,500 peer-reviewed open access journals covering all areas of
science, technology, medicine, social sciences, arts and humanities. Open access
journals from all countries and in all languages are welcome to apply for
inclusion..

EBSCO E-Journals Database
This allows you to search in and retrieve articles from the full text e-journals
the library subscribes to on an individual basis, meaning the journals not in
full text in the other EBSCO, APA, or JSTOR databases. Many of these journals,
such as American Journal of Psychoanalysis, Jung Journal: Culture & Psyche,
Qualitative Inquiry, and Qualitative Research, are also not always indexed
(meaning no full text or even citation/abstract records of their articles) in
other EBSCO databases available to current students and faculty. Note that this
E-Journals Database uses the same interface as other EBSCOhost databases, and
replaces the older
EJS product.

ERIC Database
ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center, contains more than
2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and
abstracts from over 1,000 educational and education-related journals.

Ethnic Diversity Source
With its curated full-text materials, Ethnic Diversity Source is essential to support the study of African Americans, Arab Americans, Asian Americans, European Americans, Jewish Americans, Latinx Americans, Multiracial Americans, and Native Americans, among others, with respect to their cultures, traditions, social treatment, and lived experiences. Scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, historical documents, and biographies are complemented by primary sources, such as speeches and interviews. Health Source Consumer Edition
Contains full text access to over 80 consumer health periodicals. “Also included

more than 9,900 Clinical Reference Systems reports (in English and

Health Source Nursing/Academic Edition
“Provides nearly 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical
disciplines. Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition also features the
Lexi-PAL Drug Guide, which covers 1,300 generic drug patient education

Humanities International Complete
Provides full text of hundreds of journals, books and other published sources
from around the world. Produced by Whitston Publishing (an imprint of EBSCO
Publishing), this database includes all data from Humanities International Index
(over 2,000 titles and 2 million records) plus unique full text content, much of
which is not found in other databases.

JSTOR Archival Journals and Primary Sources Collection
Includes all 2,800+ academic journals on JSTOR that span more than 60 disciplines across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, along with millions of primary sources across four collections.

PEP Archive
Contains peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles from the field of
psychoanalysis. Produced by Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing, Inc, the
database offers the full text of 20 principal psychoanalytic journals and more
than 40 classic psychoanalytic books dating as far back as 1920. In all, the
database includes more than 50,000 articles, book chapters, book reviews,
letters and commentaries and 4,000 figures and illustrations. For more

PTSDpubs
An “electronic index to the worldwide literature on PTSD and other mental health
consequences of exposure to traumatic events. Unlike other databases, PTSDpubs
does not restrict its coverage to articles appearing in selected journals. It
attempts to include all publications relevant to PTSD and other forms of
traumatic stress, whatever their origin without disciplinary, linguistic, or
geographic limitations. It is produced by the National Center for PTSD, and is
electronically available to the public.” Please note that it is a citation &
abstract database, much like PsycINFO, and does not contain full text. To obtain

PsycARTICLES
PsycARTICLES, from the American Psychological Association (APA), is a
definitive source of full-text, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles
in psychology. The database contains more than 100,000 articles from 59 journals
– 48 published by the American Psychological Association (APA) and 11 from
allied organizations. It includes all journal articles, letters to the editor
and errata from each journal. Coverage spans 1894 to present.

PsycINFO
PsycINFO, from the American Psychological Association (APA), contains
nearly 2.3 million citations and summaries of scholarly journal articles, book
chapters, books, and dissertations, all in psychology and related disciplines,
dating as far back as the 1800s. 97 percent of the covered material is
peer-reviewed. Journal coverage, which spans 1887 to present, includes
international material selected from more than 2,100 periodicals in more than 25

Cambridge Collections Online
Contains subject or theme based collections of content within a richly
functional, fully cross-searchable online environment. The Complete Cambridge
Companions is available as a complete collection and as two sub-collections
comprising the Cambridge Companions in Literature and Classics and the Cambridge
Companions in Philosophy, Religion and Culture. Each collection is updated with
new Companions on publication. Also available through Cambridge Collections
Online, the Shakespeare Survey Online makes the distinguished 60 year history of

The library’s subscription to these Collections provides access to over 8,000
entries from Oxford Handbooks. These include entries on psychology’s principal
subfields: clinical psychology, cognitive neuroscience, cognitive psychology,
counseling psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology, the history
of psychology, industrial/organization psychology, methods and measurement in

Sigmund Freud Papers
Free access provided by the Library of Congress. “The papers of psychoanalyst

Dissertations & Theses @ Pacifica Graduate Institute
A subset of the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Full Text database, limited
specifically to Pacifica’s doctoral dissertations and master’s theses (theses
started being available in ProQuest primarily in 2010, though there are a few
from 2008-2009). Nearly all Pacifica dissertations are in this database except
for those so recently published that they have not yet been sent to ProQuest.

Open Access Theses and Dissertations
“OATD aims to be the best possible resource for finding open access graduate
theses and dissertations published around the world. Metadata (information about
the theses) comes from
over 600 colleges, universities, and research institutions. OATD currently indexes over
1.5 million

ProQuest Dissertations & Theses
(formerly named Digital Dissertations) This database includes 2.7 million
searchable citations to dissertation and theses from around the world from 1861
to the present day together with 1.2 million full text dissertations that are
available for download in PDF format. Over 2.1 million titles are available for
purchase as printed copies. It also offers full text for most of the
dissertations added since 1997, from various universities.

ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Open Access
Provides full text access to hundreds of dissertations and theses whose authors
have opted to publish as open access. This database is available to everyone,
including alumni, free of charge. As of September 2011, there are nearly 60
Pacifica dissertations and theses included.


Ebook Database Descriptions

DSM-5 Library
Available to current Pacifica faculty, students, and staff. The entire DSM-5,
with classification and appendix, can be browsed by sections, disorder
categories, and then specific disorders. DSM-5 emerging measures and models
(section III) are included. There is also an alphabetical listing of DSM-5
diagnoses and codes, as well as numerical listings of the diagnoses and codes.
Both are in the Appendix.

Ebook Central (formerly Ebrary Academic Complete)
Available to Pacifica faculty, students, staff, and alumni. Ebook Central was
formerly named the Ebrary Academic Complete database. It contains over 100,000
ebooks from various academic disciplines. This database offers simultaneous use
of all its ebooks, meaning multiple viewing of the same ebook at the same time.
Ebook Central allows downloading (in PDF) and/or printing of generally 40% of
all ebooks, per browser session, though exact downloading and printing

ARAS – Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism
Covers mythological, ritualistic, and symbolic images from all over the world,
throughout history. ARAS probes the universality of archetypal themes and
provides a testament to the deep and abiding connections that unite the
disparate factions of the human family. It contains about 17,000 photographic
images, each cross-indexed, individually mounted, and accompanied by scholarly
commentary. The commentary includes a description of the image with a cultural
history that serves to place it in its unique historical and geographical

The document types included in PsycEXTRA consist of technical, annual and
government reports, conference papers, newsletters, magazines, newspapers,
consumer brochures and more. It contains more than 85,000 records with nearly a
quarter million full-text pages.

Clinical Trials.gov
“ClinicalTrials.gov is a registry and results database of publicly and privately
supported clinical studies of human participants conducted around the world.”
Produced by the U.S. National Institutes of Health. Includes psychological,
stress disorders, and mental-health related clinical studies (as well as others;
see subjects within behaviors and mental disorders). For more, see

Mental Measurements Yearbook with Tests in Print
(mobile access) Produced by the Buros Institute at the University of Nebraska, provides users
with a comprehensive guide to over 2,000 contemporary testing instruments.
Designed for an audience ranging from novice test consumers to experienced
professionals, the MMY series contains information essential for a complete
evaluation of test products within such diverse areas as psychology, education,
business, and leadership. First published by Oscar K. Buros, the MMY series
allows users to make knowledgeable judgments and informed selection decisions
about the increasingly complex world of testing. MMY provides coverage from
Volume 9 to the present.

PILOTS
(Published International Literature on Traumatic Stress) An “electronic index to
the worldwide literature on PTSD and other mental health consequences of

its coverage to articles appearing in selected journals. It attempts to include

PsycTESTS
As of July 12, 2012, this database is now available through EBSCO. It “serves as
a repository for the full text of psychological tests and measures as well as a
rich source of structured information about the tests. A wide variety of test
types are included in PsycTESTS, including achievement and aptitude tests,
intelligence tests, tests of cognitive functioning, occupational tests,
personality tests, and so on.” It includes “full text of psychological tests and
measures, as available, full bibliographic records and descriptive summaries of
tests in each record, and descriptive summaries of commercially available tests
with links to the publisher. The main focus of PsycTESTS is unpublished tests,
those developed by researchers for use in their work but not made commercially
available. For as many as possible, APA includes the full text of the tests and
measures. The records for these are based on published accounts of test
development or evaluation. In some cases, the record is based on use of a test
when it has been used for a new population or setting.”

This collection of over 300 videos allows you to view videos
online, with each video broken down by chapter for quick navigation.
Synchronized transcripts and subtitles are available for many of our videos,
with the spoken words highlighted on a transcript as a video plays. Many videos
