This workshop will include focus on psychological, biological, social, and spiritual dimensions to the aging process, with a special emphasis on psychodynamic and depth psychology perspectives. We will address the psychological imperative to continue meaning-making across the final stages of the life span, including some mythological and historical examples of individuals who encounter the defining challenges of aging. Specific topics include including identity and age, assessing and treating psychological disorders and substance abuse in aging individuals, types and levels of care, normal and pathological physical changes associated with aging, and assessment and reporting of elder and dependent adult abuse or neglect. This workshop is designed to meet the California Board of Psychology and Board of Behavioral Sciences requirement for ten hours of coursework in aging and long-term care prior to licensure and for renewal of licenses.
