4/23/13 - Open Access Theses and Dissertations
The library now has links to the Open Access Theses and Dissertations database on the Research Databases page, and the Alumni Databases page. Since it is open access, it is available to all Pacifica students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the public. One advantage to the OATD is that it provides access to dissertations and theses from international institutes and universities not always indexed in ProQuest. From the OATD page, "OATD aims to be the best possible resource for finding open access graduate theses and dissertations published around the world. Metadata (information about the theses) comes from over 600 colleges, universities, and research institutions. OATD currently indexes over 1.5 million theses and dissertations." 3/21/13 - WorldCat Identities
The Library has put a link to WorldCat Identities in the banner of our catalog, next to links for WorldCat and the Joseph Campbell Library Catalog. "WorldCat Identities has a summary page for every name in WorldCat (currently some 30 million names) including named persons, organizations and fictious characters. WorldCat Identities provides statistical data about how widely held a work is. A typical WorldCat Identities page will include a list of most widely held-by-libraries works by and about the identity, a list of variant forms of name the identity has been known by, a FAST tag cloud of places, topics, etc. closely related to works by and about the person, links to co-authors, and more" (from http://www.oclc.org/research/activities/identities.html).
We encourage you to use WorldCat Identities when conducting research about organizations or persons, including authors or fictious characters. The resulting information can show you what their most influential works are (because they will be owned by the most libraries) and what topics and places they are most associated with. 1/3/13 - Explore: Journal of Science and Healing, Arts in Psychotherapy
The journals Explore: Journal of Science and Healing, and Arts in Psychotherapy, are now available online from 2009-present to current Pacifica faculty, students, and staff.
Explore "addresses the scientific principles behind, and applications of, evidence-based healing practices from a wide variety of sources, including conventional, alternative, and cross-cultural medicine. It is an interdisciplinary journal that explores the healing arts, consciousness, spirituality, eco-environmental issues, and basic science as all these fields relate to health." It is available online through:
Arts in Psychotherapy "publishes peer-reviewed articles (including illustrations) by art, dance/movement, drama, music, and poetry psychotherapists, as well as psychiatrists, psychologists and creative arts therapists, that reflect the theory and practice of these disciplines. This journal also "reports news and comments on national and international conferences and current education information relevant to the creative arts in therapy." It is available online through:
Arts in Psychotherapy is also available in print at the Lambert campus library from 1992-2012. Years 1999-2000 are missing.
12/7/12 - Film Literature Index and Directory of Open Access Books
Both the Film Literature Index (FLI) and Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) are now accessible from the Research Databases and Research Databases for Alumni pages in the Library website. Please note that these are freely accessible databases. While the FLI itself does not contain full text, it often may contain records for articles we have in full text in EBSCO or JSTOR databases we subscribe to (for directions on finding full text articles in those databases, please see this FAQ). We have included the FLI on our pages because it is a unique database solely devoted to indexing articles on film and literature. For more on it, see this page in the FLI website. The DOAB is a database/directory of freely available ebooks. It "is a service of OAPEN Foundation. The OAPEN Foundation is an international initiative dedicated to Open Access monograph publishing, based at the National Library in The Hague." For more on it, see this page in the DOAB website. While it does not contain as many ebooks as ebrary does, nevertheless it is a growing resource worthy of checking from time to time.

Content is provided through Oxford's Reference Collection interface, which can be searched (for specific topics) or browsed alphabetically. They can be retrieved through either the library catalog (links given above) or through the Journals & Ebooks list. Access is also available off-campus (see this FAQ for authentication instructions).

9/4/12 - Journal of Transpersonal Psychology Now Available Online
Full text of the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology is available through the Journals & Ebooks directory from 1969-present. Access is only available through the publisher's website, not through EBSCO E-Journals or EJS, and is somewhat quirky. The search mechanism is not always reliable, so we recommend the Article Title, Author, and Topic pull-down menus (though the Topic pull-down menu can be inconsistent with retrieval as well). When browsing volumes and issues, the first page presents itself in ascending order by date but after clicking on any title, the list will revert to descending order by date, which will allow you to access articles in PDF. This journal's article titles and abstracts are comprehensively indexed in the APA's PsycINFO database, though linking from PsycINFO article records into the publisher's website, for the full text, do not work (because the journal is not in EBSCO's EJS product). We therefore recommend using PsycINFO to search for articles in the journal, but to obtain full text, go through the Journals & Ebooks directory.

7/12/12 - PsycTESTS Database Now Available via EBSCO
PsycTESTS previously was available only through the APA's native PsycNET interface but it is now accessible through the EBSCO platform. It is still produced by the APA. For more information on PsycTESTS and for tips on searching it through EBSCO, see EBSCO's help tutorial.
7/9/12 - More Ebooks Available to You
Over 110 ebooks have been added to our ebrary Psychology and Social Work Collection by ebrary, and we have also added new reference ebooks from Gale and ABC-CLIO. New ebooks include:
