In Memoriam: Dr. Lionel Corbett

Dear Pacifica Community,

It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of the passing of our esteemed and beloved Pacifica faculty member, Dr. Lionel Corbett, who left us on Sunday.

Dr. Corbett was a kind and thoughtful man, a brilliant scholar and practitioner, and a guiding presence within the Pacifica community for 29 years. His contributions to the field of depth psychology and to the life of our institute have been profound and lasting. He was cherished not only here at Pacifica but also by colleagues and students around the world.

In accordance with the wishes of his wife, and in heartfelt alignment with our desire to honor Dr. Corbett’s life and legacy, we are planning a memorial gathering. Further details will be shared in the coming days. If you would like to contribute memories, photos, or reflections, please send them to the Office of the President at president@pacifica.edu. We will also share information regarding memorial donations or floral tributes as it becomes available.

We close with a poem by Li Po, shared earlier by Dr. Juliet Rohde-Brown, Chair of the Integrative Therapy and Healing Practices (DPH) specialization, in her communication within the DPH department, which beautifully evokes Lionel’s enduring spirit:

You ask why I make my home

in the mountain forest,

and I smile, and am silent,

and even my soul remains quiet:

it lives in the other world

which no one owns.

The peach trees blossom.

The water flows.

With gratitude for his life and legacy,

Dr. Colin Marlaire
