Commencement 2021

We want to take a moment to congratulate all 2021 graduates on the completion of their graduate degrees here at Pacifica Graduate Institute. We appreciate the hard work and dedication that you have devoted to your journey here with us. We acknowledge and appreciate all of the patience and steadfastness in each student as we navigated through the uncertainties and challenges of this last year. May the heart and soul of Pacifica carry through to the next chapter of your life and into the work you will be doing out in the world.

Due to last year’s cancellation of commencement ceremonies, we would like to extend a warm welcome to the graduates of 2020 at the plenary session.

This year, we hosted all 2020, and 2021 graduates and loved ones for the Virtual Commencement Plenary Session on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 11:00 am PST.

Bayo Akomolafe was the guest speaker for the plenary session. He gave a speech titled “Let’s Meet at the Crossroads” the full keynote speech is transcribed here:

Bayo Akomolafe (Ph.D.), rooted with the Yoruba people in a more-than-human world, is the father to Alethea and Kyah, the grateful life partner to Ije, son and brother. A widely celebrated international speaker, posthumanist thinker, poet, teacher, public intellectual, essayist, and author of two books, These Wilds Beyond our Fences: Letters to My Daughter on Humanity’s Search for Home (North Atlantic Books) and We Will Tell our Own Story: The Lions of Africa Speak, Bayo Akomolafe is the Chief Curator of The Emergence Network and host of the online post activist course, ‘We Will Dance with Mountains.’
