Pacifica Graduate Institute cordially invites you to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with us at our Ladera Lane Campus. The event will also feature engaging talks and panel discussions from leading AAPI scholars, therapists, and healers. This event is open to everyone, and we encourage you to join us to learn more about Asian-Pacific American history and culture.

The celebration will include a keynote presentation by the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation Presidio Research Center, who recently showcased their Filipino Oral History Project, a collection of stories and archives showing the rich history of the Filipino community in Santa Barbara. Director of the Presidio Research Center, Dez Alaniz and UCSB  Religious Studies Department’s Shannon Toribio will be joining us.

In addition to our keynote presentation, the evening will feature traditional Asian and Pacific Islander food, music, and art. “Pacifica is proud to host community engagement events that recognize the contributions and heritage of our Asian American and Pacific Islander community members,” said Dr. Leonie H. Mattison, President of Pacifica Graduate Institute. “Along with our recent Black History Month and Women’s International Day gatherings, we are grateful for these continued opportunities to celebrate cultures, histories, and achievements in ways that deepen our value of building an inclusive campus climate and our mission to tend to the soul of and in the world.”

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is celebrated in May to commemorate the contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to American history, culture, and society. Pacifica Graduate Institute is proud to honor this heritage by hosting this special event.
