Pamela Brown
Degrees
- M.A.
Pamela Brown received a BA from Westminster College and an MA from Pacifica Graduate Institute. Her work is influenced by her background in symbolic anthropology and depth psychology. For the past decade she has travelled to the desert of southern Utah to create. She has studied the intergenerational dialogues of petroglyph panels, like that of Newspaper Rock, featuring rock panels created by the ancestral Puebloan peoples over the course of a thousand years (dated between 650 to 2000 years ago). She views mark making, art making, and poetry, as a manifestation of the collective unconscious. The instinct to create and the daily rituals used to access psyche, position the artist as a messenger of the unconscious rather than as the source of the creativity that moves through the artist. As artist in residence, she is available to discuss student work and encourages students to approach their work at Pacifica as an opportunity to begin meaningful life work.
