Dr. Barbara Bain is Upper Klamath Shasta-Kanaka living on Chumash and Upper Klamath Shasta lands. She is a recognized member of the Shasta Nation of Northern California. Dr. Bain holds a PhD in Depth Psychology, a Master Degree in Cultural Resource Management, and an advanced certification in Dream Tending. Dr. Bain is the former Director of Operations for the Healing and Reconciliation Institute in Monterey where she worked doing community peace work, Native land acknowledgement and recognition, and supporting Native women’s community projects. She works actively in the field of decolonial Indigenous psychology with Indigenous peoples in California and Indigenous allies across Turtle Island. As an educator, her focus is on contributing the cultural resilience and vitality of Indigenous ways of life and bridging Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives. Dr. Bain is the sole proprietor of Indigenous Awakening Consulting (2015). She is also an adjunct professor at Pacifica Graduate Institute where she teaches Community Dreamwork and Critical Indigenous research Methodologies. She lives in Santa Barbara California.
