Dr. Heather McMillen is a psychotherapist, artist, writer, and consultant. As adjunct faculty in Pacifica Graduate Institute’s M.A. Counseling Psychology Program, she supports emerging therapists in bridging scholarship with transformative clinical practice.
Heather maintains a private practice in Pasadena, California, where she works with highly creative and neurodivergent individuals and couples, integrating somatic modalities, EMDR, emotionally focused couples therapy, and depth-oriented approaches. She also consults with early and mid-career therapists, offering a relational space to explore the interplay between clinical work and personal experience.
Her current research synthesizes depth psychology and the neurodiversity paradigm, part of a broader inquiry into the intersections between depth perspectives and fields such as color theory, feminism, multiculturalism, and queer theory. Her travels and experiences across cultures have shaped her appreciation for the diverse ways inner life is expressed and understood, informing her approach to both research and practice. She is especially drawn to explorations that link the complex inner universe of the individual with the larger cosmos and physical world.
Alongside her clinical and academic work, Heather is a fine artist working in charcoal, oil, watercolor, ink, and gouache. She is currently writing a portal fantasy trilogy that integrates themes of light, color, quantum mechanics, and depth psychology.
