Our mission is to create a comfortable and welcoming on-campus experience for all students so that they may feel supported in their learning and nourished in their well-being.
Pacifica students fall under two lodging statuses: Residential and Non-Residential. Residential status applies to all non-local students, as well as any local students who elect to utilize Pacifica lodging during sessions. Non-Residential status means that a student resides locally and does not wish to utilize Pacifica lodging during sessions, or a student has an approved residential waiver form on file. Pacifica considers Local Residents to be those who reside permanently in Santa Barbara or Ventura Counties. Proof of permanent local residency is required prior to on campus attendance to be classified as a non-residential student.
Lodging through Pacifica is provided at a location assigned by Pacifica and is booked though Pacifica’s Guest Services staff via the Guest Services Registration form. Any changes in assigned location of stay throughout the academic year will be communicated by Pacifica to students Pacifica.edu email addresses. Student requested changes need to be submitted via email request at least one (1) week in advance of session start and are subject to availability.

Residential status means that you reside in Pacifica lodging during on campus sessions. If you have a permanent residence in the Ventura or Santa Barbara counties, you are eligible for non-residential status, which means that you commute to and from campus each day. Local residents are welcome to elect to be residential and stay on campus during sessions (residential fees would be applied). Others who may qualify for non-residential status would be those with an approved residential waiver on file. Approval is required at the beginning of each academic year.
Guests are not permitted to stay overnight during sessions. If you will be traveling with a partner or family during sessions, please reach out to Guest Services at GuestServices@Pacifica.edu in advance of the session to discuss options that may be available to you. Guests joining for meals must be arranged through Guest Services at least one week in advance. Guests are not permitted in the classrooms.

Vaping and/or smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking gazebo area and smoking/vaping of any kind is strictly prohibited in any of the rooms or buildings.
The use of alcohol on the grounds of either campus is prohibited except for Pacifica approved functions.
Pacifica’s meal policy requires full participation by all students during their class sessions. Mealtimes provide a setting for students and faculty to come together as a community.
Pacifica is not responsible for misplaced personal items. As a courtesy, however, a lost and found service is provided through the Reception Desk of both Ladera and Lambert campuses. Students cannot store any student’s personal items on campus between student sessions. For any lost and found inquiries please email reception@pacifica.edu.
All students are required to comply with Pacifica’s parking and transportation policies, as presently written and as they may be amended. These policies are designed to be respectful of our neighborhood and to comply with our Conditional Use Permit (CUP) requirements and local, county, and state laws.
Pacifica is not liable for loss or damages to any vehicle or its contents while parked at either campus location or the Best Western Carpinteria Inn or other local lodging location. Please lock your vehicle and secure all valuables. Parking over-sized vehicles, RVs, or campers is not permitted on either campus and may be towed.
Lambert Road Campus Parking
Parking on the Lambert Road campus is limited and available on a first come first serve basis. Please utilize the shuttle service from the Best Western whenever possible. Vehicles properly displaying a valid disabled parking placard being used by the registered owner, may park in any disabled stall without prior approval. In addition, if a student has special needs that require a family member or caretaker’s presence on campus for an extended period of time, arrangements for the parking must be made prior to coming to the Lambert campus.
Ladera Lane Campus Parking
Student parking is available at the Ladera Lane campus. Residential students are asked to park in parking lot D, next to the handball courts behind the Residence Building. Non-Residential students should park in the main lot in front of the Administration Building. Students may not park in restricted areas. Please read the parking signs and note there is no student parking on Ladera Lane or on Toro Canyon Road.
Residential status means that a student resides in Pacifica lodging for each session. Location of lodging is determined by Pacifica and communicated to students on the Guest Services Registration Form. If changes are made during the academic year this will be communicated in advance of a session through the Guest Services Office.
Included in the Residential Fee-Programs that are on campus for three days of classes have two in-session nights of stay, programs with four days of on campus classes have three in-session nights of stay. The night prior to session start, and the night of the day session ends, are offered as additional nights of stay for additional fees. Changes in nights of stay need to be requested via email to the Guest Services department one week in advance of session start, and need to be confirmed prior to arrival. Notice of an absence needs to be emailed to the Guest Services Office five days in advance of session start.
In-session nights are the nights of accommodation that are included in your residential fees per quarter.
MA & PsyD Counseling programs (Tracks C, D, V, W, & LG) and CLIE (Track P) programs have two in-session nights included in the quarterly residential fees. Summer session has 6 in-session nights included in the quarterly residential fees.
DCH (Track X), DJA (Tracks N & ZZ), and Clinical (Track A) have three in-session nights included in the quarterly residential fees.
DPH (Track HY) has four in-session nights included in the quarterly residential fees.
Myth (Track MU) has two-in session nights included in the quarterly residential fees for all sessions excepts Spring session 3 which has 3 in-session nights included in residential fees.
Students may request one additional night before the start of their session and/or the night of the last day of session, for an additional fee. In-session nights and additional nights are not interchangeable. Additional nights are subject to availability and initially may be reserved on the Guest Services Registration form or requested via email to GuestServices@pacifica.edu at least one week in advance to session start date. Any changes to your dates of stay, or requests once your registration has been submitted, must be emailed to the Guest Services Office, at least one (1) week in advance of session start and confirmed prior to arrival. Notice of an absence must be sent via email at least five (5) days prior to session start.
Any additional nights that are added to your reservation will be charged at the start of the quarter, or in the weeks following the conclusion of your session. You may pay the balance online, or by calling the Student Accounts Office.
All dates of stay for the entire academic year are made at the start of Fall, unless otherwise communicated by the Guest Services Office. For students who return later in the year after a leave of absence, or have a Spring Quarter start, dates of stay will be booked in advance of the return/starting Quarter. Depending upon your program please refer program specific details on offered nights of stay, location of lodging, and policies.
Meals are included in your residential fee for your on-campus sessions for both residential and non-residential students. For most programs meals start with breakfast on the first day prior to class start, and end with lunch on the last day of classes. Exception to this would be our Clinical PhD program. This program starts with dinner on the first night of their on-campus session as they have classes that evening. The Clinical PhD program also ends with lunch on the last day of classes. Please see the Meals/Dining section for more information on our caterer and meals offered during on-campus sessions.
If a student moves to Santa Barbara County or Ventura County during the academic year, Non-Residential status will take effect before the next class session, contingent upon the Housing Committee’s acceptance of the student’s proof of residency in one of these counties. It is the students’ responsibility to notify Guest Services about changes in residence. The Guest Services Office may request proof of residence once the student has made initial contact.
If a student moves out of the local area during the academic year, it is the student’s responsibility to notify Guest Services at least 2 weeks prior to the upcoming session to arrange housing through Pacifica. Residential or Non-Residential status remains in effect until the student notifies the Guest Services Office via email, of a change. Changes of status become effective for the subsequent class session.
Students with Non-Residential status may not stay on campus overnight. This includes sharing rooms with Residential status students, camping on the grounds, or sleeping in a car or RV in the parking lot.
Non-Residential status is available to students who reside permanently in either Santa Barbara or Ventura counties. For those who elect Non-Residential Status, Proof of current residency is required at the beginning of each academic year, and prior to Fall Quarter start, upon returning from a Leave of Absence, or start of Spring Quarter (if a Spring admit). Once proof is submitted it will be kept on file for the academic year.
The Guest Services Registration form must also be completed by selecting Local Resident as the “room” option on the form(s).
This form link is sent out via email prior to each Fall quarter, or multiple times during the academic year dependent upon need and program.
Residency is established and supported by producing one of the following documents:
Students may also qualify for Non-Residential status if they choose to stay with an immediate family member who resides in either Ventura or Santa Barbara County. Pacifica defines immediate family member as parents (natural or adoptive), grandparents, or siblings. Any student who plans to stay with immediate family during the sessions must submit a Residential Waiver Form and supporting documentation confirming the immediate family relationship. The Residential Waiver form may be sent to the Guest Services Office via email to: guestservices@pacifica.edu.
If a student does not meet the above conditions but wants to be considered for Non-Residential status due to special circumstances, they may do so by submitting a Residential Waiver Form through the Guest Services Office who will then forward it to the Housing Committee. Residential Waiver forms will be carefully reviewed, and, if the Housing Committee approves the request, the Guest Services Office will notify the student via email and the status change will become effective before the next class session.
Meals – For non-residential students’ meals are included in your non-residential fee for your on-campus sessions. Most programs start with breakfast on the first day prior to class start, and end with lunch on the last day of classes. Exception to this would be our Clinical PhD program, this program starts with dinner the first night of their on-campus session as they have classes that 1st evening. Non-Residential students may utilize the Pacifica Shuttle from any of the shuttle stops noted in the Transportation and Hotel Information section, but are otherwise responsible for their own transportation, must abide by the parking policies, and remain participants in the Pacifica meal plan.
Parking over-sized vehicles, RVs, or campers is not permitted on campus and may be towed.
Students may be assigned by Pacifica, by academic year, quarter, or session to stay at off campus hotel lodging. The following are the guidelines for Best Western in Carpinteria, our primary off campus location. Please read carefully.

Students may be assigned by Pacifica, by academic year, quarter, or session to stay at our Ladera campus dormitory lodging.
Our Residence Hall dormitory building on the Ladera campus is equipped with single occupancy rooms. They include either a full or twin sized bed, a sink, mirror, desk, chair, and small desk fan. They have shelves and hangers for clothing. All linens and towels are included. Our Residence Hall has shared men’s and women’s bathroom and shower facilities, as well as a gender-neutral bathroom. All shower stalls include bathmat and soap. We recommend students bring all their own toiletries.
The Residence Hall has three student lounges on the first floor, and two on the second floor for relaxing, gathering and studying. There is also a small kitchenette, with refrigerator, water dispenser and microwave, located centrally on the first floor.
If bringing any personal food, please remember to take it with you at the end of your session. Anything left in the refrigerator at the end of session will be thrown out by our housekeeping staff.

Any requests for cancellations due to absence from a session must be submitted to guestservices@Pacifica.edu at least five days prior to scheduled arrival per Pacifica’s absence policy. Exceptions to this policy will only be made to those who can provide a doctor’s note for the missed session or other supportive documentation.
Upon arrival to Ladera campus, you may check-in with reception, at the front lobby, any time after 3PM. You will be given a key to your room at that time. Check-out time is 11 AM. Please return your key to the front desk and sign the check-out sheet. The check-out sheet is important, as it serves as documentation of the date you checked out, for billing purposes. Please do not leave the key in the room, students are not considered “checked out” until the key is returned to the drop box, at the reception desk.
We greatly appreciate your timeliness in checking out as it allows our wonderful housekeeping staff adequate time to turn the rooms around before the next program checks in!
Your meals will include breakfast, lunch and dinner for the days that you are in classes. The last day of session will include breakfast and lunch. Dinner will not be served on the last day of session, due to classes ending that afternoon.
Please note, if you are coming in the evening prior to your session, dining services will not be provided.
Our catering company offers healthy, whole meals. They offer vegetarian as well as vegan options and include local and organic ingredients whenever possible. If you have medically restricted dietary concerns (a physician’s note is required), please contact guest services to discuss in advance of session.
If special accommodations are needed for your on campus sessions, please reach out to our disabilities services office at disabilityservices@pacifica.edu as far in advance of Fall, or your returning or starting quarter, as possible.
Residential and Non-Residential fees include meal plans for all in session students and include breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Meal plans may vary among programs due to differing schedules. Students may contact the Guest Services Office to obtain detailed information about the meal plan for their track. Pacifica’s catering service provides vegetarian, vegan, fairy free, and gluten free options at each meal. The catering service will assist, if possible, in supplementing items on the buffet that meet the students’ medical dietary needs to provide an adequate plate at each meal. Students are asked to bus their own tables. Students are asked to return all dishware and utensils to the busing station in the dining room if they eat outside or bring these items to their classrooms or dorm rooms.

Special meal assistance will be accommodated for any student who is placed on a restricted diet by their licensed physician and provides a physician’s note. To request medically restricted diet assistance, a student must complete the dietary information section on the Guest Services Housing registration form and submit it to the Guest Services Office (guestservices@pacifica.edu). Follow up by the student to the Disability Services Office at DisabilityServices@pacifica.edu is then required. Special dietary assistance is limited to food within the context of the current menu offerings. It is imperative that meal planning be done in advance so that the kitchen staff may be prepared, or the student can discuss and arrange other avenues to meet their meal needs during sessions.
Students who have accommodations in place through the Disability Service Office for special dietary requirements are responsible for identifying themselves to the dining room staff kitchen staff at mealtime, asking any questions about meal options on the buffet if they are not clear (after reviewing the signage and posted menus), as well as requesting any supplements to meet their medical dietary needs. Menus and food item signage are posted at all times. The caterer will try to accommodate personal preferences and personal choice diet requests (e.g., low fat, high protein, low cholesterol) if availability of those preferences are available and on hand.
Occasionally students may invite a guest to join them for a meal. To make arrangements for a guest meal, students need to notify the Guest Services Office at least one week prior to the class session. This notice ensures that the catering staff is prepared. The hosting student’s account will be charged for the guest’s meal and refunds will not be offered. Because our dining facilities are often utilized for classroom interaction during mealtimes, the dining facilities on campus are considered classrooms. As such, students are asked to limit the number of meals their guest participates in. Guests may not be under 18 years of age, excluding nursing children. Exceptions may be requested to the Guest Services Office for immediate family members under the age of 18. Guests should not arrive or remain on campus for extended periods of time prior to or after the meal. Guest meals are a privilege which may be revoked at any time, for any reason, at Pacifica’s discretion.
Visitors, regardless of age, are not permitted in classrooms (which may at certain times include the dining halls on both campuses). No one unaffiliated with Pacifica who is either selling products to students or charging or requesting a fee for services rendered to students is permitted on campus at any time. A guest or family member may not sleep overnight on the Ladera campus. Everyone on either campus or traveling to or from either campus must abide by all parking, traffic, and land use regulations.

Pacifica wishes to support our students with children and asks that student parents be mindful of the importance of the learning environment in making arrangements for having infants, children, or other caregivers on campus. Students must contact the Guest Services Office prior to class sessions so that appropriate arrangements can be made, including completion of a Children on Campus Guest Agreement.
For nursing parents, a private lactation room is available marked with the blue lactation room sign, or students may request a dorm room through the Guest Services Office for nursing and breast milk expression. Requests for a day use only dorm room will be accommodated as availability allows. Refrigerators are available in the nursing rooms on campus, but may need to be turned on, please ensure it is turned on and cold before use.
Infants and children under age 18 must be transported privately (the Pacifica shuttle service is not available). Children under the age of 18 are also not permitted to reside on the Ladera campus, and offsite arrangements must be made in advance through the Guest Services Office.
While on campus, children must be supervised by an adult caregiver at all times. Infants and children may not be in classrooms, libraries, maintenance facilities, residence halls or computer labs. If children aged 3 or younger join students in the Dining Room during meal periods, they must remain held, carried, and/or always seated with the parent or caregiver and kept safely away from the buffet lines. If disturbances or other issues arise, the exception to our “No Visitors” policy may be withdrawn. Childcare resources are not available at either campus.
This policy is subject to change due to health and safety considerations.
Pacifica offers a free shuttle service to in-session students during residential sessions only, 7:15 AM – 10:00 PM. The shuttle runs between Best Western and campus the morning and afternoon of scheduled classes. They are also available throughout the day by calling the shuttle number below.
The shuttle will pick up or drop off at a Pacifica campus location, the Carpinteria Amtrak station, the SB Airbus (Chase Bank stop located in Carpinteria), Lookout Park in Summerland, or Best Western in Carpinteria. Keep the following shuttle numbers handy for on-call shuttle service. Service is not available from the SB Airport in Goleta.

Nicole Kitzmann is the Associate Director of Student Residential Life at Pacifica. She is committed to the organization and implementation of all of your residential lodging and meal needs. Nicole has worked at Pacifica in the area of hospitality for almost a decade and enjoys ensuring that all students’ needs are met to the best of her ability. Prior to employment at Pacifica, Nicole’s professional experience stems from housing management, personal assisting, and security/first response. She graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Sociology. In her free time, Nicole enjoys long walks with her dog Cozmo, catching a live sporting event, and time with family and friends.

Geovany “Geo” Lucero is the Student Life Coordinator at Pacifica. They are committed to serving students as a resource and amplifying DEI practices on campuses. Geo has over five years of experience in student affairs and enjoys being a part of people’s academic journey. Prior to working at Pacifica, they studied feminist studies (B.A.) at University of California, Santa Barbara. While attending UCSB, they were involved in student organizing, advocacy, and leadership throughout various campus organizations such as the Multicultural Center, Hermanas Unidas de UCSB, Associated Students and more. Their leadership as the 2021-22 Student Advocate General tackled areas such as: return-to-campus guidelines/COVID-19 policies, student housing crises, academic policy/procedure accountability, and student casework. They developed a passion for helping students navigate through their campus resources, programs, and policies in hopes of alleviating any pressures or roadblocks. Geo has worked in student affairs, event programming, public speaking, community advocacy/organizing, as well as dabbling into their barista skills at Starbucks. They enjoy exploring restaurant recommendations, attending live shows/concerts, and adventuring nature with their two dogs, Sage and Gansito.
