The First 100 Days

Approach and Report from Dr. Mattison’s 100 Day Listening, Learning, and Connecting Tour as President and CEO

“People will champion what they help to create.”

On October 3, 2022, I joined the Pacifica Graduate Institute community as the first black female President and CEO in the school’s 46-year history.

As a people-first, transformational leader, a core value I believe in is listening first to understand. On day one of my arrival on campus, I shared my commitment to and embarked on a 100-day listening, learning, and connecting tour to build and gain trust as I seek your insights on Pacifica’s points of pride, pain, possibilities, and priorities. From my experience, people will champion what they help to
create.

Thanks to the guidance and support from my transition team, in my first 100 days, I met with over 500 of you individually and in groups. I conducted town halls on campus, as well as virtual meet and greet sessions, and an online survey was available. A progress update was shared with the internal stakeholders after day 30.

I am grateful that you took the time to share your honest assessment of who we are, where we have been, where you want to go, and how we can meet this unique historic moment together.

When I think about the complex changes that have been thrust to the forefront of our collective consciousness and after hearing your concerns, innovative suggestions, and creative ideas, I can say that your care for Pacifica and belief in our mission is more critical than ever.

From our collective engagement, I have outlined the six themes that emerged from the data collected, along with reflections on those themes. The theme from our collective retreat and your voices has coined “Onward Expansion of the Traditions, Power, and Advancements of Depth Psychology.” The listening, learning, and connecting tour findings will inform our work from this day forward. They will be considered in upcoming conversations and planning about campus climate, WSCUC Self-Study preparation, and developing a new Institutional strategic plan. Along this journey, I will be transparent and provide you with regular progress reports.

Now that we are past the first 100 days, I will continue my commitment to listening, learning, and connecting with you. I am enthusiastic and energized about what we will achieve together.

Dr. Leonie H. Mattison, Ed.D, MBA
President and CEO
